In-Progress Lynchburg Home
T&M is currently under construction of a custom designed timber frame home located in historic Lynchburg VA. This beautiful 3 bedroom timberframe home is being built in conjunction with Riverbend Homes of PA. The timberframe design will feature dozens of beautiful exposed stained oak beams that form the skeleton of the home, and then the exterior walls will be SIP panels (Structural-Insulation-Panels). The SIP panels will form the skin of the home. The insulation value we are able to accomplish from this type of construction is approx. 200% better than the average home insulated with fiberglass insulation. We began construction on January 5, 2009 and will bring weekly updates and photos to the web site. We are hoping to have the family move in during the late summer of 2009.
Week 1
It took several days to selectively remove the trees to allow large trees to remain close to the home but still allow some degree of safety in the event of falling trees. A local contractor provided us with all the equipment needed to remove the trees and start digging the hole that will soon be the basement. Once the trees were out of the way we began digging the foundation that will be the basement and pouring the footers. The footers will ultimately hold the weight of the entire house. It took 5 full concrete trucks and a pumper truck all day to get the footers full of concrete.

Week 2
Once the concrete has dried we began laying the cinderblock foundation. It took several weeks to set all 6,216 cinder block. We used cinder blocks for several reasons. The primary reason is accuracy. Since this entire house is being cut and formed in Michigan and hauled in on flatbed trucks, we have less than 1/8th inch in tolerance to be out of square and out of level. Once complete, Riverbend came in and took very detailed measurements and determined that we were only 1/16th of an inch out of square and off level. That is unprecedented with 6,216 cinder blocks and over 4,000 square foot of coverage. Hat’s off to the crew of Funk’s masonry.

Week 3
At 4:44pm on Wednesday February 11, 2009, the 6,216th block was put into place. The foundation blocks are complete. YEAH!!!!!. The next step is to fill the concrete blocks with a cement like material called grout mix. Again, the parade of concrete trucks will arrive. This time 9 trucks filled with concrete and the pumper truck form a well orchestrated event to fill each and every hole with cement.
